Two 3Views to give away

I'm sure that a sufficiently technical person could re-purpose my two 3View boxes.

After all, they are/were working Linux systems with 500GB discs, so could still be useful in another, perhaps educational, context.

Any suggestions, offers, ideas?

Re: Unending 3view splash screen

Barry: Thanks. Interesting, but so far I've usually been able eventually to see HDMI output via my Epson projector. But it's worth knowing that SCART output might be useful in dire situations. Ricinus: Atter countless re-powerings to obtain the Maintenance Menu, I have finally got around to reinstal...

Unending 3view splash screen

My Box A managed to retune itself to about 90 out of 120 or so channels and worked normally for a couple of weeks. Then, without warning, it started to output a zoomed-in version of the picture, i.e. the total picture size remained the same and went via HDMI to the projector as normal, but the conte...

Re: Repeated channel scan failure

Thanks for help with the unmount command being spelled "umount"(!) Having succeeded in getting about 90 out of 120 stations retuned by Box A all by itself, I have not needed actually to make the transfer of channel backups this time around. But the information in this thread may yet prove useful. Th...

Re: Repeated channel scan failure

I did just pull the USB memory out of Box B. I don't actually know how to unmount the USB memory because looking for help I got this: 3view ~/backup/channels >unmount -h -bash: unmount: command not found Anyhow, after repeating Codge's backupchannels command and doing ls directly on the backup direc...

Re: Repeated channel scan failure

OK, found a USB stick, put it in Box B, then copy/pasted your commands one at a time via Telnet: mount -o remount,rw /tmp/mp0/ mkdir /tmp/mp0/channels/ cp /home/3view/backup/channels/* /tmp/mp0/channels/ BUT---Windows reports /channels/ now contains 17 ZERO-LENGTH files named from 14-Oct-2013-00-08 ...

Re: Repeated channel scan failure

Weird or not, Barry, I'm very pleased to have your attention and quick advice. Unusually, my Telnet client of choice is Nettle under RISC OS, but that needn't be relevant. I can certainly follow instructions for Unix/Linux, and resist any temptation to be clever in areas I'm unsure of. I shall have ...

Repeated channel scan failure

I (stupidly) chose to rescan channels on Box A yesterday. I entered Codge v2 EPG mode and chose not to keep existing channels. It got quite some way through before failing. Subsequently every single attempt (now about 10 tries), rescan has resulted in a minute bit of yellow progress bar, no stations...

Re: Codgev2 - status update

EITHER (1) Download CodgeV2 patch file by pointing your browser to http://159.253.213.108/3viewPVR/codgev2.tar Put file codgev2.tar into the root folder of a USB stick and plug it into the 3view. Telnet into the 3view as user "root" using the current password (either the original one or "3view" if C...

Re: Codgev2 - status update

I am sorry if anyone is misled by my previous post. I have asked Admin if it can be deleted or edited since, after larkim/Matt's reply, I cannot do that myself. I'm happy to be corrected by larkim/Matt but, in my defence, (1) ISTR that oldcodge said here that he still had some work to do to ensure t...
